Sand Dune
1996, Guangzhou; performance,
30 min

Sand Dune is a performance piece took on a random construction site in Guangzhou dated back to 90s. The concrete bricks and sand, the most common found material in the rapidly urbanized city in southern China is the essential element for the work. I began by building a brick wall at one end of sand dune, and then move this wall brick by brick forward so the whole wall can eventually "climb" to the other end. It was almost a mission impossible because the bricks sank into the sand due to gravity and the wall was unable to maintain its full shape. In the end less and less bricks left for possible moving.
